What Is It?

A white-fudge-coated candy bar with a caramel, peanut, and almond nougat center — one of the few candy bars to use white coating instead of milk chocolate.

History

The Zero bar is one of the most distinctive surviving products from the Hollywood Candy Company era. Its white fudge coating — unusual among candy bars at a time when milk chocolate was the universal standard — made it visually striking and gave it a sweeter, milder taste than its contemporaries. The interior combines caramel, peanuts, and almond nougat. Frank Martoccio also developed a heat-resistant synthetic coating for the bar, allowing it to be sold in warm Southern markets before air conditioning became widespread. The Zero bar outlived all other Hollywood Candy products: it passed through Leaf Candy (1988) to Hershey (1993), then to Annabelle's Candy Company. It remains in production today and is one of the few surviving artifacts of the Hollywood Candy Company's legacy.
